Environments in Microsoft Fabric

 You can create custom environments in a Fabric workspace, enabling you to use specific Spark runtimes, libraries, and configuration settings for different data processing operations.

When creating an environment, you can:

  • Specify the Spark runtime it should use.
  • View the built-in libraries that are installed in every environment.
  • Install specific public libraries from the Python Package Index (PyPI).
  • Install custom libraries by uploading a package file.
  • Specify the Spark pool that the environment should use.
  • Specify Spark configuration properties to override default behavior.
  • Upload resource files that need to be available in the environment.

After creating at least one custom environment, you can specify it as the default environment in the workspace settings.

Select and configure an appropriate method for access to Azure Blobs

Azure Storage supports using Microsoft Entra ID to authorize requests to blob data. With Microsoft Entra ID, you can use Azure role-based access control (Azure RBAC) to grant permissions to a security principal, which may be a user, group, or application service principal. The security principal is authenticated by Microsoft Entra ID to return an OAuth 2.0 token. The token can then be used to authorize a request against the Blob service. Authorization with Microsoft Entra ID is available for all general-purpose and Blob storage accounts in all public regions and national clouds.
